TP-link configuration for connection with e-407 microcontroller board

TP-Link Router, source: https://www.tp-link.com

This brief manual explains how to configure the TP-link WR802N Router for a peer to peer Wifi connection with an Olimex e-407 microcontroller board. The wifi connection can be used to flash the microcontroller and to monitor or calibrate using the XCP connection over Ethernet.

Dependencies

Before you can access the e-407 microcontroller board, the Ethernet bootloader needs to be installed on the e-407.

Configuration of the router.

If the router is not configured, access it as described in the manual of the router. You have to connect to the Wifi network the router is broadcasting. If connected, you can access the settings page by navigating to IP 192.168.0.1 in you internet browser. For username and password, use: admin The order of the configuration is important since we are not able to change the broadcasted SSID if we have selected the router as a hotspot router. So first of all, change the SSID (Wireless ->Wireless Settings) e.g. INTRALOG Truck.

Next you can change the password of the Wifi network(Wireless->Wireless Security). After saving these settings, you have to reconnect to your new Wifi network. After logging in on the new Wifi network, you can change the operation mode (Operation Mode). Set it to Hotspot router and save. The device will reboot. After reboot you can change the Network settings (Network->LAN). Set the IP Address to 169.254.0.1 and the subnet Mask to 255.255.0.0 so the connected device has access to this domain. Save the changes.

That’s it. Now you are able to connect to the e-407 over Wifi.
